Civil Engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design,construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment ,including works such as bridges,roads ,canals,dams and buildings.It is traditionally broken into several sub disciplines including environmental engineering,geotechnical engineering,structural engineering ,transportation engineering,urban engineering,water resources engineering,materials engineering,coastal engineering, and construction engineering.
SCOPE IN INDIA
Opportunities exists in the public and private sectors in large numbers in all branches of design,construction and maintenance,infrastructure development in both India and abroad.Civil engineers are employed in all the major construction projects carried out by the central or state government,the railways,private companies,military,private construction companies,consultancy services etc.,.
SCOPE ABROAD
Most developing countries and countries which are investing in buildings like Dubai and so on ,a civil engineer is required a lot to manage projects.It is a good career and never ends.People will never stop building homes,factories,stadium,bridges and an endless list!Also in the field of constructing the civil engineer is usually the manager or head of the engineering team that might be from electrical,mechanical and civil.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is the minimum requirement to become a qualified civil engineer.A post graduate degree is required for research or teaching posts and an additional degree in business administration is desirable for management positions.Engineering courses are at two levels.There are the degree and post graduate degree courses offered by the engineering colleges and IIT and the diploma courses available at polytechnics.There is also an examination called AMIE ,which enables working people in the private and public sector,or diploma holders to acquire a Bachelor's degree through distance education.
